When choosing sandwich panels for a construction project, I think it is worth looking beyond the initial cost per square foot. Different panel types may look similar from the outside, but their insulation performance, fire resistance, durability, and maintenance requirements can vary quite a bit. The right choice depends on how the building will actually be used.

PUF panels are commonly considered for warehouses, cold storage facilities, factories, and prefabricated buildings because their polyurethane core provides good thermal insulation without adding excessive weight. They can help maintain indoor temperatures and reduce the workload on cooling systems when properly designed and installed. EPS panels are often considered where upfront cost is a major concern, although their thermal performance and fire behaviour differ from those of polyurethane panels.

Rockwool panels are worth considering when fire resistance and acoustic insulation are important. Their mineral wool core is non-combustible, making them useful for certain industrial and commercial applications. Glass wool panels also provide thermal and sound insulation, but their suitability depends on the required density, facing material, and installation conditions. Honeycomb panels are different again. They are generally selected for their lightweight construction, rigidity, and structural applications rather than being the automatic choice for high-performance cold storage insulation.

Another factor that often gets overlooked is installation quality. Even a good panel can perform poorly if joints are not sealed properly, thermal bridges are left untreated, or the supporting structure is unsuitable. In cold storage facilities, vapour control and airtight joints are especially important. Panel thickness, core density, surface coating, and the quality of connections should all be checked against the project's requirements.

I would also compare the long-term costs, not just the material price. A lower-cost panel might suit a basic partition, while a temperature-controlled warehouse may justify investing in better insulation to reduce operating expenses. Fire performance should always be verified through appropriate test reports and certifications for the complete panel system, rather than relying only on the core material's properties.

For anyone researching  PUF panels vs other sandwich panels , it helps to compare the intended application, temperature range, fire safety requirements, maintenance needs, and expected service life together. Resources from manufacturers such as  Technopuff Solutions  can also help construction teams understand the available panel options before finalising specifications.

What has been your experience with these materials? For industrial projects, do you usually prioritise insulation efficiency, fire safety, or the overall lifetime cost when selecting sandwich panels?
