Engine light flashing and the car shakes at idle, can I still drive it?

Something scary happened on my way to work today, and I am still a bit shaken. I drive a 2016 Infiniti Q70 with about 132,000 kilometers, and this morning the check engine light started flashing while I was stopped at a signal. The whole car was shaking like it had a cold, and when the light turned green it felt weak and jerky, almost like it forgot how to accelerate. After a few minutes it calmed down a bit, but the light stayed on. I pulled into a parking lot and just sat there for a while, not sure if I should keep driving or call someone. My colleague told me a flashing light is serious and I should stop right away, because it can damage the engine. My brother said it is probably just a dirty spark plug and I am overreacting. I did not know a flashing light and a normal light were different things, so I started reading during my lunch break. I found a page from a workshop in Mussafah about engine problems on Infiniti cars, and it explained that misfires, oil leaks and cooling problems can all show up with shaking and warning lights, and that a proper check starts with scanning the codes and then testing the parts one by one. That helped me understand it is not always a huge bill, but it also made me worry I waited too long.
