Twitter Communities or twitter trends, which suits best to grow their account .

I have been thinking about going in-depth in X Communities or continue to pursue twitter trends for growth. Now, communities seem to be getting 2.7x engagement as compared to the regular feed. There do still appear to be trends that spur discovery though. I think you would need a full team to do both well, hence I'm considering to use boostbysocial for the engagement portion, and deal with content myself. So how is the real-world play for someone who creates alone, and has a limited amount of time?
